The papersummarizesthedesignandimplementationofaquadraticedgedetection filter basedon
Volterraseries.The filter isemployedinanunsharpmaskingschemeforenhancing fingerprints inadark
and noisybackground.Theproposed filter canaccountformuchofthepolynomialnonlinearities
inherent intheinputimageandcanreplacetheconventionaledgedetectorslikeLaplacian,LoG,etc.The
application ofthenew filter isinforensicinvestigationwhereenhancementandidentification oflatent
fingerprints arekeyissues.Theenhancementofimagesbytheproposedmethodissuperiortothatwith
unsharp maskingschemeemployingconventional filters intermsofthevisualquality,thenoise
performance and the computational complexity,making it an ideal candidate for latent fingerprint
enhancement. |
